Contributing to the project (it's super easy)

Contributing to the commandments hierarchy project is a piece of cake for any programmer worth their salt. All that's involved is adding a new class, and you're done.

Here are the (free) tools you'll need:
Once you've got the tools, you should be able to run the project with 3 easy steps:
  1. Get the source code.. Ideally, use TortoiseSVN. Otherwise, just download it.
  2. Open the project in Visual C#. Once you've got the source code, simply double-click the CmdMents.sln file.
  3. With the project opened in Visual C#, press F5. It will build and run the project, generating the magnificent Commandments Hierarchy right before your eyes!

Running the program, you'll see the big commandments hierarch, but you'll also see the program running. Here's what it looks like:

Notice the program tells you which next 5 commandments need mapping. Now's your chance. It's time to map your first commandment!

Mapping your first commandment

This is the really easy part. All you do is add a single class, and you're done. Here are the steps:
  • Pick out a commandment to map. Run the program (F5), and it will show you a good commandment to map. Let's pretend to pick #85.
  • Go to the commandments listing and find #85.
  • With the project opened in Visual C#, add a new class to the appropriate folder:

Give it an appropriate name:

Derive from the appropriate class:

And finally, fill in the data:

That's it! You're done!

Hit F5 to run the project again, and you'll see your commandment automagically placed in the appropriate location.

Congrats, you're now a contributor to the Greatest Commandments Project.
